Get to know these must-have home astronomy supplies

The following are the basic home astronomy supplies a serious beginning astronomer must have.

Find stars with a planisphere

Believe it or not, this tool was used by astronomers for more than hundreds of decades. Early astronomers intended to be able to bring the motion of the sky down to the earth that they have created little machines to be able to duplicate it.

A simple model that works and which actually illustrate the way the sky actually turns as well as it also help in determining an object’s location any particular time is the planisphere.

These starfinders have been published and designed in the previous centuries that those experienced astronomers still rely much on them.

Planisphere literally means a sphere that is flat. It contains a sky map which pivots at the pole celestial. When one turns the map, it actually mimics the everyday motion of the heavens.

Tools for collimation

Such tools are actually used to be able to collimate the reflectors: these are the eyepiece Cheshire, sight tube and laser collimator.

Sight tube is usually covered with a cap on the end, it has a small peep hole at the center.
There are also models which have hairs crossed at one end. Meanwhile the eyepiece is the collimation real workhorse. It is a tube peephole with a face that is shiny and is set forty five degrees towards the barrel.

When used in dark environments, its face could be illuminated via shining the chart light towards the opening. The collimator laser is a laser solid state module that is housing mounted and fits the focuser’s telescope. It throws out a light beam along the axis.

A map of the stars

The most effective map is the map all-sky that is designed specifically to be used by one’s naked eye. This is the map that is able to show where it is to find the stars that are the brightest and any constellations that are seen at a particular date, time and earth latitude.

Have a flashlight ready

In order to read a map while observing the starry sky, one would have to have a flashlight preferably a red light as this has minimal effect on one’s night vision. You could also acquire a special light for astronomers which uses red LED.

Go binoculars

These are ideal first time telescopes. They are cheaper than telescopes, they are also available widely and it is easy to carry them around.

All in all, there are lots of astronomy supplies which could be found in your home. just open your eyes and look.
